BLS (Basic Life Support) TRAINING PROGRAM FOR TRAFFIC POLICE & TOLL EMPLOYEES Road Traffic Accidents RTA Police & Toll Plaza personnel training Vachana Foundation and SPARSH Hospital, Bangalore engaged the first responders and our heroes from Bengaluru Traffic Police & Toll plaza officials by training them in CPR. From World Trauma day leading up to the occasion of World Stroke Day, a Team of Doctors from SPARSH Hospital, Bangalore – Dr. Ullas Gopalakrishna, Dr. Devendra Naik, Dr. Pranam Hathwar, Dr. Kiran P V, Dr. Rekha C and foundation leads Vivian, Karthika and Ganga trained over 1000 police and 300 Toll plaza personnel across all levels in a life- saving crash course. At Vachana Foundation and SPARSH Hospital, it is our endeavor to reach out to patients during critical hours in need of Trauma Care and save lives with timely medical interventions. Vachana Foundation chips in to help the severely distressed in need. Participants were initially demonstrated about life support skills over mannequin and in the group of 2 people were made to perform their skills in front of instructors to attain expertise. The trainees enthusiastically performed their skills and were very interactive in learning and clearing their doubts. All the participants were satisfied and thrilled in knowing and learning new modality of life support in event of any emergency which they will be coming across at all times. The Participants thanked SPARSH Hospital, its founder Dr. Sharan Shivraj Patil and team of professionals for giving them the opportunity to learn this new life saving skill. India is home to the 2nd largest road network in the world with a total road length of over 62 lakh kilometers! This massive network serves as the nation’s lifeline transporting over 64.5% of all goods within the country in addition to being the preferred option for moving over 90% of India’s passenger traffic. While our roads may showcase development in the country, they are also a source of great danger for users in India for various reasons including misuse by drivers and pedestrians, condition of the infrastructure, and natural disasters. While India has 1% of the world’s share of the number of vehicles, we account for almost 11% of global road accident deaths. As per the report, there were 4,12,432 unfortunate incidents of road accidents during 2021, which claimed 1,53,972 lives and caused injuries to 3,84,448 persons. Road accidents continue to remain the leading cause of deaths, disabilities, and hospitalizations in the country despite concerted efforts at all levels to contain them. The Vachana Foundation works across the spectrum of Road Safety to: Prevent Accidents through awareness and other campaigns Provide Emergency Care through our Right to Resuscitation program where we believe that all human beings have a right to resuscitation (emergency care) after any accident and emergency life-saving care should not be dependent on factors like Money or lack of family members/attenders. All the patients received under the Foundation programs in casualty receive primary life-saving care free of Cost. Treat Accident Survivors through the most complex polytrauma and other injuries they sustain with the highest quality care to prevent mortality, and morbidity and prevent long-term disability.

CHILDREN’S DAY

CHILDREN’S DAY Vachana Foundation a unit of SPARSH Hospital Group celebrates Children’s Day with a free pediatric screening along with fun filled activity of painting competition, singing competition and face art. Students from Acharya institute of Graduate studies volunteered for the programme. The Half a day event for 70 children from humble backgrounds began with a pediatric screening. Children included were orphaned, single parent headed households going to Government schools, children from economically challenged backgrounds and children of SPARSH Hospital group. The kids who participated in the screening were from Blessing Home, Ashadeep, Bridge camp Girls Home, Government schools and included some staff children. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shekar Patil Renowned Medical oncologist and board member Sparsh Foundation. Dr. Shekar Patil stresses on the need for changing lives and reaching out to every child’s need both medically and socially. Children had a fun time and many of them thanked Vachana Foundation – an affiliate of Sparsh Hospital Group for involving them in the painting and singing competition and health screening. Children were given gifts, mementos, balls, pens, sippers, note books, painting books and sweets. Certificates of participation for the children and volunteers were distributed to children. Judges stated that the paintings were of high value, very artistic and original. The doctors Nurses and staff from all the departments made this event possible with a smile on the children’s faces. Snacks such as sandwiches, badam milk in the morning and a sumptuous lunch with veg biryani, curd rice, raitha and rava ladoo ended the event. First Aid kits were distributed to the institutions for use in emergencies. Children’s day was celebrated for the patrons with a ward visit at the Women and Children unit. Mothers and children were happy with the sweets, cake and mementos on children’s day..

KOLAR MEDICAL CAMP

KOLAR MEDICAL CAMP Mission: To identify physically challenged, children and elderly. Total number of (Children) beneficiaries of the camp: 160 Total number of (Senior Citizens) beneficiaries of the camp: 50 A medical Camp can be considered as a life-saving program that aims to provide free medicines to financially challenged living in rural areas by a hospital team with varieties of medical specialized services. A medical check up camp for Govt. school was organized on 27th of November, 2022 at Hanumanahalli Village, Kolar district by Sparsh Foundation. The 10 members of the hospital include Dr. Manohar – Paediatrician and, Dr. Sanket -General physician, Operation head – Sparsh Foundation and Program officers, Marketing manager and 4 staff Nurses along with Acharya Institute of Graduate college Interns volunteered for the medical camp at 10 Am. Blood pressure/sugar screening, child health care, eye check-up, orthopedics and ENT consultation and dental check-up services were provided Doctor advised them for various medicines and consultation during the camp. Free essential medicines were dispensed. The camp closed at around 2 pm. Camp was coordinated by Mr. Ashoka Bala Reddy and Payal Sareen Reddy members of RIDS Charitable Trust.

S.M Hrithik

S.M Hrithik Master Hrithik, 7 yrs old male from Bangalore. He presented the complaints with hand swelling and diagnosed with web space abscess.As the part of treatment, the next day he underwent a procedure. His father is a driver and less income and he is the breadwinner for the family. Vachana foundation supported the kid for his treatment.Hrithik mostly spend his time with books,and he loves reading. After the treatment he written his exam and he became class topper for the year!!!

Kaustubha, a warrior

Kaustubha, a warrior Kaustubha is a small boy of 6 years old. He is from Sira Taluk, Tumkur district. One day he was playing in his father’s work place – in a garden. His father was about to cut the grass with the machine. His father was inside the office. One of the employees had on the machine’s switch and he was not aware that the kid was playing with the machine. All of a sudden everyone started hearing a loud scream from the garden area. Everyone rushed out and saw what happened? Then his father was in shock seeing the blood flowing down from his kid’s hand and the kid fainted. He really does not know what to do? All his co-workers took control of the situation and took the kid to the nearby clinic. Then the doctor recommended Sparsh hospital for further treatment. They rushed immediately to the Sparsh hospital. Father couldn’t afford the treatment cost. He is a daily wage worker, so he requested support from the Foundation, Where Sparsh Vachana foundation intervened and did the required thing. He underwent surgery successfully. Kaustubha is doing good and his family thanked Meena Mam, Chairman Dr. Sharan Patil and the Sparsh Foundation team for the whole hearted support.

Shreyas and his braces

Shreyas and his braces Shreyas is 4 years old. He had walking difficulty and he is dependent on all to walk. We were worried about his future because he couldn’t walk without someone’s help. We planned to take him to a good hospital but money was difficult to arrange. I work as a room boy and earn a meager Rs. 9000 per month and have two children and couldn’t meet the treatment cost. My brother Gangappa, suggested SPARSH hospital from where his daughter who had a similar issue was treated under Vachana foundation free of cost. Shreyas is diagnosed to have spastic diplegia and the treating doctor advised Botox injection and POP application. Vachana foundation undertook the surgery free of cost and now he has knee abduction braces. We are very grateful to Chairman sir, Vachana Foundation, Dr Rudraprasad, Dr Samarth Arya and their team, all nursing staff. Thank you for the support and my son is with braces and look forward to him walking like his cousin Lakshmi Rotti.

Guru Namana in the making Mahadevappa

Guru Namana in the making Mahadevappa Mr Mahadevappa K G aged 75 years old male diagnosed with Acute Intestinal obstruction secondary to hepatic flexure of colon growth with impending perforation of caecum. He has already spent 7 lakh as on 17/12/2022 for the treatment and was going for DAMA Discharge Against Medical Advice), due to financial trauma. Vachana foundation intervened where in the procedure could be conducted for the patient to have a healthy life and to prevent DAMA and provide new lease on life. He underwent a procedure on emergency basis on 19/12/2022. Now the patient is leading his life happily. He thanked Dr. Sharan Patil, Chairman of Sparsh Hospital, Dr Muralidhar & Team and Sparsh Foundation for the financial support when all financials were exhausted.

A life line for a young breadwinner ARVIND Arvind, 24 years old male from Srirampura, Bengaluru thanking Chairman of Sparsh Hospital Dr Sharan Patil, Treating doctor Dr. Avinash and team, nursing staff and Spars foundation. Arvind was working as a delivery boy for zomato,and he was the breadwinner for his family including his mother,sister and brother.Due to his poor health condition he stopped working. He was suffering from urine infection and for same and was taking medication in one clinic for 45 days and almost spent all savings for consultation and treatment but couldn’t see any improvement in his health condition, and later he went to Known govt hospital in Bangalore for treatment but they didn’t provide any good care and health started worsening.One fine day he visited SPARSH hospital for consultation and met Dr Avinash and was asked to get some blood tests,scanning.After seeing the reports doctor told that he has a stone and need to have a surgery. He has undergone his first surgery for kidney stone removal and after 2-3 days doctor noticed a pus formation in his surgical area and again need to get done the surgery for the same. But he was a in a stage where all savings exhausted and can’t afford the surgery cost.As his financial condition is very poor and not having a support from anybody and his mother is a single parent ‚she had no idea how to overcome this and in the same month he lost his sister due to same health condition and spent lots of money for her. The same he conveyed to the treating doctor and he referred the case to Sparsh foundation.Sparsh foundation supported him for his surgery of bilateral stent removal and URS Now he is recovering and trying to lead a new life!!!

SARIKA – Budding flower

SARIKA – Budding flower Sarika, a 1yr old child was diagnosed with clubfoot when she was 8 months old. Sarika lives in a joint family with her mother (Kauvery Mondal), grandmother and grandfather in a small village near Chikkamagaluru district. Her father is working as a machine operator in a company in Telangana. Originally they are from West Bengal and paternal grandfather works as a laborer in the estate.. Sarikas parents and grandparents were worried about how their little child will face the challenges of the world as she grows up with club feet. They were concerned about the struggles she would face to lead a normal life in the future. It was at Chikkamagaluru the owner of the property Dr. Sudarshan Ballal noticed Sarikas feet. He called his friend, a renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr Sharan Patil who gladly suggested having the child for a screening at Sparsh Hospital Bangalore. Sarika’s mother and grandfather accompanied Sarika for a consultation with Dr Rudraprasad the orthopaedician at Sparsh hospital who suggested certain orthopedic procedures before a corrective surgery for Sarika Meanwhile Dr Sharan Patil looking at the economically challenge family of Sarika directed the Foundation to help out the family. Sarika’s mother and grandfather were counseled by the Foundation. Rudra Prasad explained the Medical and surgical processes and suggested 7 sittings of POP weekly for a period of 7 weeks. Sarikas mother and grandfather were ecstatic and on the first day of POP Sarika cried a lot but after an hour she was pacified and this happened for 7 weeks in rotation. The mother and grandfather meticulously came in for the procedure of POP and each time they traveled from Chikmagalur to and fro. Sarika was a brave lil girl and traveled with them. In the meanwhile Foundation personnel coordinated the procedures with the Spars Kutumba card and took care of the child’s treatment and supported with donated free POPs, consultation, OT and nursing charges waived. Sarikas treatment started on 22nd of November, 2022 and the surgical procedure on 23rd January, 2023. On completion of the surgical procedure Sarika was followed up by Dr. Rudraprasad the week following 23rd January 2023. Dr Rudraprasad on examination suggested foot abduction braces for a period of 6 years. Sparsh Foundation coordinated free braces from the Orthotics department sponsored and designed by Sparsh Hospital. Sarikas mother and father were advised to have a follow up scheduled every month to monitor progress. Sarika was at first unhappy with the brace; now her mother says she smiles and they are relieved that their child will lead a normal life and have a future. Sarika’s family is thankful to the Chairman, treating doctor, staff nurses team and Foundation team for making a difference in their lives.

Strides

Strides Rosy Mery was brought to Sparsh Hospital at RR Nagar on 2nd Feb 2023 with acute chronic pancreatitis with pancreaticopleural fistula by Dream India Network (DIN). At the emergency she was stabilized by a team of doctors led by Dr. Devendra Naik and preliminary tests conducted. Rosy Mery was emaciated with poor muscle mass and was severely undernourished since she could not eat due to severe pain. She needed major surgery, however she needed to be optimized by pulmonologist Dr. Rajani in a order to tolerate such a major procedure. She was placed on a nutritive diet plan and underwent exercises to increase her lung function. Surgery was undertaken on the 8th of Feb 2023 by a team lead by Dr. Pranav Honnavara Srinivasan • Consultant Gastrointestinal Surgery which lasted for a marathon 8 hours. Anesthesia for such a major procedure is a daunting task, however Dr. Lokesh and Dr. Nutan (Consultant anesthesiologists)ensured that it went smoothly. Rosy was stabilized and she was a fighter and was soon on the path to recovery. Rosy was shifted to the ward on the 11th of Feb 2023 and has since been recovering and also working on her subjects of 2nd PUC. Rosy aspires to be a beautician and a drawing teacher. So she will be starting her beautician course after 6 months according to the doctor’s advice. Rosy was discharged on 16th of Feb 2023 and arrangements are made for her rehabilitation and a peer caretaker will oversee needs. Rosy was wished by doctors, nurses and the managing trustee of Vachana Foundation Mrs. Meena Patil who blessed her with good wishes and health. Rosy temporarily stayed at Grace Hospital at Rajajinagar, a unit of Dream India Network which is equipped to look into her needs with all amenities of a hospital, doctor and nurse on hand and visit regular checks at Sparsh Hospital post discharge. Now she is recovered and shifted to her PG from Rainbow homes and plans are afloat so she could appear for her 2nd PUC exams.
